EDWGGA Grower Meeting, October 18 - Cover Cropping Considerations for Vineyards, At Folsom Lake College's El Dorado Center

Please join us on October 18 for a special presentation and discussion on the benefits of cover cropping. This meeting will be held at the Folsom Lake College's El Dorado Center in Placerville at 6:30pm. The El Dorado Center is located at 6699 Campus Drive Room A105, Placerville. Our guest speaker will be Dr. Margaret Smither-Kopperl, manager of the 106-acre USDA-NRCS Lockeford Plant Materials Center (CAPMC). The discussion includes the benefits of cover cropping, cover crop types, species selection, and management of planting, irrigation, and termination. Dr. Smither-Kopperl has been with CAPMC since 2010. Her agricultural experience started in England with fruit and vegetable production. She has a BS is in botany from the University of London and a Ph.D. in Plant Pathology from Michigan State University. This will be a joint meeting of the El Dorado Wine Grape Grower Association and the Viticulture Program at Folsom Lake College. The CAPMC supports the NRCS in California by testing plant species including cover crops and pollinator species and is a site to demonstrate soil health.
