About the vineyard

Saureel Vineyards is located in the Sierra Foothills of Northern California within a 150 acre ranch in which 35 acres is planted in mostly eclectic and rare Rhone varietals. Location: 1,650’ elevation in the Gold Hill District in the town of Placerville, CA. The vineyard is widely know to exist in the “banana belt” region of El Dorado County which cools off nicely at night with air drainage to the American River. The vineyard is planted 5’ x 9’ spacing and trellissed to VSP.
Soils are decomposed granite. Historically, the present site was a vineyard in the 1870’s but was converted to cherries in the 1920’s, pears in the 1970’s, and the current vineyard was planted in 2016/2017. Varietals grown are mostly eclectic Rhone varietals.
