About the vineyard
Shaker Ridge grows Barbera and Primitivo and 5 Portuguese varietals, featuring Touriga Nacional. Our 1/2 acre "Quinta" planting of Portuguese varietals is proportioned to yield a balanced traditional "Port" style wine or full-bodied complex red blend. We are a small family-run vineyard passionate about quality and serving the needs of our clients. Our gently sloping site with good air drainage and exposure consistently ripens our grapes while still retaining the mineral qualities typical of El Dorado fruit. Our award-winning Barbera grapes have been used in many vineyard-designated commercial bottlings over the years, including a couple current releases, and are known for their particularly dark color which comes from our 20-year-old vines and low-yield, concentrated fruit. Our Barbera typically hits peak ripeness in the first two weeks of September. Minimal quantity is 0.5 ton.

Our Primitivo has been used in many vineyard-designated bottlings and won accolades both as dry wine and in port-style wines from both commerical and home winemakers. We have learned from experience with these grapes, and now farm a more limited acreage on a single, low-yielding soil type that produces concentrated, flavorful fruit. Our main Primitivo harvest was Sept. 3; the fruit is very flavorful and holding acidity as of latest sample on 9-4-22, which was 27.7 brix, pH 3.50. Late harvest style after Sept 10. Minimum order 250 lbs.

We consider Touriga Nacional to be an outstanding, under-appreciated varietal that is best known for its use in authentic Portuguese port-style wines, but shines equally brightly as a single varietal dry wine and blender. Touriga has deep color, alluring aroma, and solid tannin structure, and we are passionate about our Touriga, which has won numerous awards in commercial and homemade wines. Minimum quantity is 250 lbs. Harvest expected approx. Sept 17 to Sept 24.
